Before >> little house FOUR

At the same time that we were about to move into what would become Little House Three God spoke to Luke and I separately. He told Luke to move us to Kansas City in a short amount of time, and He told me that He had "just the place" for us. As we moved forward with the Kansas City leading we spent ample time house hunting. Adventure after adventure for months with nothing actually coming together. We took the leap anyway and ended up moving into this place sight-unseen the day we moved to KC. I had scrolled through some of the images of this townhouse on the property manager's website but had passed it by knowing it was out of our budget. When the place we'd applied for wasn't a good fit though the guys offered us this place at a slight discount. Turned out to have been vacant for some time and while the amenities sell it it was dated and worn, as you can see below. Still, it was the place I had dreamed of and better still for it to be a project -- a blank slate to get to work on. Transforming this place with fresh vision and creating in it a space to call our own for the next few years has been an utter joy. We've been working for two weeks, baby on one hip and paint brush in the other sometimes, and not only have a reveal coming shortly but also a house-warming party. Can you even remember?

{click post title to view all photos} Having all the upstairs completely painted feels amazing. It almost feels a little weird to have started and done most of the painting, but let someone else finish, but I'll get over it. ;) Cleaning, rehanging the doors, making the shower more presentable and hanging towel bars again are some of the last touches. For those very observant ones who are wondering about the hole in the wall where the built-in dresser used to be, don't worry. That will be made into a closet, but probably not for a week or so yet. Other than that, things are looking finished upstairs. Do you even remember what it used to look like ? The kitchen is all sheet-rocked and mudded and taped! So marvelous. Makes me very happy every time I walk in. I love the still-dreaming-and-planning, wide open feel of walls that are just studs, but soon these very new walls will be holding the most wonderful cabinets. And that, watc...

Little House at Christmas //

Another chapter in the "Have your dream-house for your first house" story. Though by the world's standards I am far from poor, I certainly have no income to spend on Christmas decorations. So how did the Little House get prettied up for free? I'll tell you! This wreath I constructed from a garland that my Aunt gave me. I have a ribbon jar in my house and pulled this thick, white one out and tried several different ways of tying it before I settled on the two bows. This bowl of holly is what remains of the garland I constructed the wreath from. I knew that I wanted to hang a garland over this doorway. That was the one thing I was set on when I set out to decorate. My Aunt was so kind to give me her extra ones! As you will see when I do a post about all the little details in the kitchen, I have collected a lot of glassware in the past year and a half. Among my dishes, I have three sets of wine glasses.
