Final Days //

Art is ready to be hung, furniture is mostly in place, and I have kind of gotten ahead of myself in setting up house. I mean, the place still needs to be cleaned, paint scrubbed off the floors and scraped off a few more windows... Slipcovers have yet to be made for the couch and chairs but I couldn't resist putting the throw pillows out.

Still have some trim to prime and paint and a wall to finish painting in the back entry, but I've moved on to cleaning up my great grandparent's old radio and bringing loads of my belongings over to the house instead. One day I put the final coat of paint on the dining room table and then did something very uncharacteristic: I set the brush down, walked away and totally forgot to ever clean it out. Two days later when I went back to the house and realized that had happened, it was hard as a rock. Oops!

As soon as the countertops come, I get the measurements for my open shelving, hang the doors with their nice new glass in them, and put the appliances in place -- the kitchen is done! Well, except for installing the sink, hooking up the plumbing, and purchasing hardware for the doors and drawers. But you know! It's been hard to resist unpacking my dishes in there... I'm too excited!

Elsewhere, the remodeling phenomenon of piles continues. The messy stuff has all been piled in the back entry, making the back door inaccessible for now, and keeping me from finishing the work to be done in there (lame excuse? yeah, pretty much). While I was away in Denver a bunch of things got brought to my house that aren't mine, just to be stored in a dry and safe place for the time being. So I have a pile of things that need to return to Dad's office and a pile of my own boxes and belongings.

After I moved in the furniture I'd painted at home, had to get them scrubbed up. Dirt and dust don't belong on bright white furniture. ;)

Can't wait for the closet space in my room to be finished out so that I can clean and move in! When we pulled off the broken window shade on the window in the stairway we revealed a spot of trim that missed getting painted. Have to remember to hit that when I do the trim in the kitchen and back entry...

The end is in sight. I might just move in before everything is done though, because I don't think I can wait!

WK 1 >> day THREE

I wasnt emotionally prepared to take on the full project of the kitchen yet -- degreasing, sanding, priming and painting every surface -- but I didnt want to be living out of plastic tubs either so I dug out a few essentials for cooking and eating. Creating and placing the flags onto my world map was a fun break from all the hard work. Unpacking all of my books -- about half of my boxes contained books -- organizing them and placing them on my newly assembled IKEA bookcase was a big step of progress. Being able to push my bedroom furniture back against the walls was another one.

Can you even remember?

{click post title to view all photos} Having all the upstairs completely painted feels amazing. It almost feels a little weird to have started and done most of the painting, but let someone else finish, but I'll get over it. ;) Cleaning, rehanging the doors, making the shower more presentable and hanging towel bars again are some of the last touches. For those very observant ones who are wondering about the hole in the wall where the built-in dresser used to be, don't worry. That will be made into a closet, but probably not for a week or so yet. Other than that, things are looking finished upstairs. Do you even remember what it used to look like ? The kitchen is all sheet-rocked and mudded and taped! So marvelous. Makes me very happy every time I walk in. I love the still-dreaming-and-planning, wide open feel of walls that are just studs, but soon these very new walls will be holding the most wonderful cabinets. And that, watc...
